Non-for-profits

by: W Samantha Newman

WHAT IS THE BEST MARKETING FOR THEM?

Name recognition is key! To want to give money to an organization, people want to know why and what it will be used for. Annual reports are huge in keeping the publics interest. Flyers for fundraising events and how you market and use public relations to get the word out is key in getting participation. It really depends on the size of the non-for-profit and how much donations are coming in versus fundraising.

The non-for-profit must decide what is the most important, getting fund, getting volunteers, or getting recognition. All are important and some need more of a focus on different areas. There is no one way to promote non-for-profit agencies. Sunti Designs helps make a detailed plan for the year for many non-for-profits. We have been involved with promoting Children’s Miracle Network, St. Louis Artist’s Guild, Kidney Walks, Team Central Gymnastics Academy, and many more. In the last 7 years, we have helped promote over 50 non-for-profit organizations.

We do one pro-bono piece for non-for-profit organization every quarter. To apply to be the next one, please let us know what your needs are and when you need them. We will announce who we are helping in the second quarter by the end of February 2011. We are currently helping Team Central Gymnastics Academy with their Elite Banner Program. Go to their site to get the details.

Non-Profit NEWS

January 2011

Missouri Capital BuildingThe state of Missouri has a web-site about charities.  Anyone can go to the site and check on a charity that they might want to consider donating to.  If you want your charity listed on the site, you’ll have to submit some paperwork to them.  In addition to completing the charity information form:  checkacharityform.pdf, you’ll need to supply a copy of your 990, a certificate of good standing or most recent annual report from the Secretary of State’s Office, and a copy of your IRS determination letter (if your charity is new.)

The site displays your mission, your revenue and expenses, and what percentage of funds is used for administrative purposes.  If you’re just curious and want to check on a charity, click here:  http://ago.mo.gov/checkacharity/.

Social Media for Non-Profits

By: W Samantha Newman

Our suggestions is probably not what you think. We actually think that this should be done in-house by an non-paid intern. If this is not fesible, then it should be outsourced. Getting volunteers, donations, and participation for a non-for-profits is easy and welcome on all social networks. People love belonging to something that gives back. Of course, they will friend you on Facebook, listen to tweets on Twitter, and want to be associated with you on LinkedIn, MerchantCircle, FourSquare and other forms of social networks.

We have done many fundraiser and marketing campaigns for non-for-profits. Where it is available we have gotten them connected with the right people to get interns so they can continue delivering the feed that is necessary to get name recognition and the funds they so desparately need to do goodwill. If you want to learn more about how to structure your non-for-profit on-line, contact us at wsnewman@suntidesigns.com.
